Want to enjoy a classic Rhode Island beach day with your dog by your side, but struggling to find a beach that allows pets in the summer? You might have to take a ferry.
All state beaches in the Ocean State only allow dogs on the beach during the offseason, largely due to overcrowding. However, certain town beaches, including all beaches on Block Island, allow dogs in the summer under certain conditions.
Here’s your summer guide to which beaches you can bring your dog to in Rhode Island.
Block Island beaches
All 15 public beaches on Block Island welcome leashed dogs year-round. The beaches are:

- Crescent Beach, Corn Neck Road
- Fred Benson Town Beach, 7 Corn Neck Road
- Mansion Beach, Mansion Road
- Ballard’s Beach, 42 Water St.
- Charlestown Beach, West Side Road and Champlin Road
- Mohegan Bluffs, Mohegan Trail
- Scotch Beach, Corn Neck Road
- Vaill Beach, Snake Hole Road
- Baby Beach, Beach Avenue and Corn Neck Road
- Surf Beach, 32 Dodge St.
- Cooneymus Cove, Cooneymus Road
- Dinghy Beach, Corn Neck Road
- West Beach, West Beach Road
- Cow Cove, Corn Neck Road
Compass Rose Beach
Leashed dogs are allowed year-round at Compass Rose Beach in North Kingstown, also known as Sea Plane Beach at Quonset. There are poop bag stations. Open from sunrise to sunset, the beach is located at 1347 Roger Williams Way in North Kingstown, on the eastern side of Wickford Harbor near Quonset Point.
