Davenport, Iowa – Another round of storms is expected to sweep through eastern Iowa and western Illinois overnight, bringing the risk of damaging winds and heavy downpours just as residents head into Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a line of strong storms could move across areas west of I-380 and U.S. 218 between 1 and 4 a.m. CDT. Areas closer to the Mississippi River, including the Quad Cities, could be hit between 5 and 8 a.m. CDT. The primary threats are strong wind gusts capable of downing trees and localized flash flooding due to intense rainfall.
Communities from Cedar Rapids to Moline should prepare for soaked roads, rising creeks, and the potential for power outages. Isolated storms are also possible this afternoon and evening ahead of the main system.
