Howell Community Park pool will stay closed

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A community pool at one of Baton Rouge’s oldest parks will remain closed after an incident where young children had guns sparked safety concerns for visitors and lifeguards.

BREC Interim Superintendent Janet Simmons said last week that while the July 20 incident at Howell Community Park involving children between the ages of 8-12 was “non-confrontational,” it was a cause for concern.

A petition started by residents to keep the pool open has over 100 signatures. Simmons announced at a Monday meeting that the pool likely won’t reopen until next summer…
