Summer heat forces Little Rock Mexican restaurant to change hours as kitchen temps rise

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Like the old saying goes, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” But for one Little Rock family, that isn’t an option.

At El Alamo Mexican Grill, the family-owned restaurant’s two 400-degree grills, fryer and even the ice machine are driving kitchen temperatures to unbearable levels. The extreme summer heat has forced the business to close its doors early.

“With all the heat coming from the grill, burners and fryer, it can get up to 120, 130, even 140 degrees at times,” said Alex Gutierrez, head chef at El Alamo Mexican Grill.
