ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The hot and humid weather pattern will remain in place through Wednesday. Cooler conditions are anticipated across Southwest and Central Virginia by the end of the week.
A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead on Tuesday with temperatures rising into the upper 80s and lower to middle 90s. Heat index values near 100 degrees are possible in the Roanoke Valley, Central Virginia, and Southside.
Due to daytime heating, isolated to scattered showers and storms are possible during the afternoon to evening hours. While the severe threat is low, it’s not zero. Storms may produce gusty winds. Slow-moving thunderstorms, capable of producing heavy rainfall, may result in localized flooding concerns.
Little change is expected in the weather pattern for Wednesday. Highs will be in the upper 80s and 90s with heat index values near 100 degrees anticipated east of the Blue Ridge. Spotty hit-or-miss showers and storms may pop up during the heat of the day.
A cold front will approach the region on Thursday. Scattered showers and storms are expected Thursday afternoon into Friday, with isolated thunderstorms becoming strong to severe. The front will pass through on Friday, resulting in decreasing rain chances throughout the day.
While temperatures will rise into the summer-like 80s and lower 90s on Thursday, cooler air behind the front will result in below-average temperatures for the end of the week. Highs will be in the 70s and lower 80s by Friday.
Cooler and drier air will result in pleasant weather for the weekend. Afternoon highs will be in the 70s while morning temperatures will start in the 50s and 60s. A few spotty showers cannot be ruled out on Saturday and Sunday, but many will see a mix of sun and clouds overhead…
