Amarillo, Texas – A stalled front could bring torrential downpours to the Texas Panhandle on Wednesday, raising the threat of flash flooding across the region — especially near Amarillo and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, rainfall rates could reach 1 to 2 inches per hour as the front settles over the area late Wednesday into Thursday. Precipitation chances are expected to climb sharply by Wednesday night and again Thursday evening, with flash flooding, strong storms, and saturated soils likely to create hazardous travel conditions.
Counties including Potter, Randall, and Oldham fall within a 5–15% risk zone for excessive rainfall, while parts of the northwestern Panhandle near Dalhart may face even higher probabilities. Low-lying roads and flood-prone intersections could quickly become impassable during intense bursts of rain. Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roadways and follow the NWS reminder: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”…
