JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade wants to set the record straight when it comes to open carry in the capital city.
Wade said the Jackson Police Department (JPD) constantly gets calls about people walking around with guns. He made it clear that Mississippi is a constitutional carry state, which means someone can openly carry a gun without a permit but that only applies for adults.

The police chief asked the Jackson City Council on July 29 to consider creating an ordinance that would punish parents if their child is caught walking with a weapon.
“No juvenile should have a gun. Now, when we catch them with guns, we arrest them. We take the guns. But they are then turned over to the youth court. They’re not taking the highest county unless they use a gun to rob someone or shoot someone,” Wade stated…
