HONOLULU (Island News) — Clouds and showers are drifting westward through the islands this morning, linked to a weak low-level trough. This disturbance is causing lighter trade winds, muggy weather, and increased chances of rain, especially over central and western parts of the state.
Showers are most likely in windward and mountain areas, but some stronger showers may drift into normally drier leeward regions.
With lighter winds today, local sea breezes will develop over most islands. These breezes could lead to more afternoon cloud cover and isolated showers along interior leeward slopes, especially over the Kona side of the Big Island.
Drier and more stable weather is expected to return starting Tuesday as the trough exits west and the subtropical ridge builds back in. Trade winds will also strengthen into the moderate to breezy range in a noticeably less humid environment…
