Leaser Lake sunfish regulations to change in 2026: What anglers should know

Since being restocked with fish following its refilling just over a decade ago, Leaser Lake has developed into a quality bluegill fishery, with excellent numbers of the always-eager-to-cooperate fish ready to gobble up almost anything anglers throw their way.

As a result, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is changing how it manages the sunfish population on the heavily fished lake, with a goal of benefiting both anglers and fish.

The PFBC Board of Commissioners on Monday gave approval to adding sunfish at Leaser Lake to the list of waters managed under the state’s Panfish Enhancement Special Regulations program. The program, which establishes minimum size and creel limits, is designed to increase the size, quality and numbers of panfish species in a given water. The new regulations will require panfish to be at least 7 inches long before an angler can creel them and apply to any bluegills, pumpkinseed and hybrid sunfish caught in the water.
