17-year-old boy charged in fatal east Birmingham shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A 17-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday in connection to a fatal shooting in Birmingham’s Gate City neighborhood that happened Friday.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office issued a reckless manslaughter warrant against the juvenile male Monday. He was placed in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail and held on $30,000 bond.

The juvenile, whose name the BPD is not revealing because of his age, is accused of causing the death of 17-year-old Birmingham resident Reginald Pope. Police found Pope dead inside an apartment in the 7500 block of 67th Court Way South Friday morning.
