Blue alert system strives to protect public and aid in capturing suspects

MADISON, Ala. — When an officer is attacked in the line of duty — and the suspect is still out there — every second matters.

The Blue Alert system was created to get critical information out fast and bring the public in to help.

“There’s a silver alert which is for missing endangered elderly. Elderly persons, like, maybe somebody with, it’s at risk with dementia. That has wandered a whole something along those lines,” said Captain Terrell Cook with the Madison Police Department. “A blue alert is essentially the same thing. It works in the same fashion.”…
