‘We see more and more technology-based scams’ | KCSO teaches seniors how to prevent being scammed

POWELL, Tenn — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office taught a class on Monday for senior citizens. The topic they covered is one that many are too familiar with — scams through technology. The senior community is the most impacted, and to combat this, a Powell funeral home hosted “Scam Smart.”

The Mynatt Funeral Home organized this event to educate seniors on scams and teach them how to prevent them from happening. Aaron Yarnell, Captain of the Technology Crimes Division with KCSO, said this event helps inform others.

“They put this program together to get people together to talk about what type of current scams are going on with technology, and what we can do to prevent them and have a knowledge base because communication about these scams is more important,” said Yarnell…
