NEW YORK (PIX11) — With heat and humidity stifling the tri-state and temperatures peaking in the 100s, it may come as no surprise that the city broke a nearly eight-decade record on Tuesday.
Heat indices hit 100 in Queens and 101 in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday, breaking records set 76 years ago in 1949, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory remains in effect over New York and much of New Jersey until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Areas in northeast New Jersey, such as Newark, were also placed under an extreme heat warning until 8 p.m.
