Experts link agricultural chemicals to health risks in Iowa, propose new water quality act

More than a dozen beaches across the state measure high levels of E. coli. Fifteen beaches, all in Iowa, are either closed completely or not recommended for swimming by the DNR. A virtual town hall on Tuesday, organized by Food & Water Watch, discussed what could be causing these issues and what they could mean for water supplies.

Other topics included the state’s water usage, the presence of nitrate in drinking water, and the role of agriculture in water pollution.
