Secretary’s Horseback Ride Sparks Outrage

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is again facing public criticism following a recent social media post. The former South Dakota Governor, appointed to the cabinet by Donald Trump, has drawn controversy throughout her tenure, particularly for her immigration policies and what some consider to be staged photo opportunities.

Noem, currently in Argentina, shared an Instagram video of herself riding a horse named “Abundance.” The caption read, “My first time riding an Argentinan-bred horse–her name is ‘Abundance’—she reaffirmed that no hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle!”

The post quickly sparked backlash, with many accusing Noem of being tone-deaf, especially given her past actions, such as posing in front of a Salvadoran mega-prison while wearing an expensive watch. Commenters questioned the cost of the trip and who funded it, with some suggesting taxpayer money was used.

Others criticized Noem for appearing to prioritize photo opportunities over her official duties. One commenter asked, “Is the point of this is that you’re still doing nothing for our country?”

Another remarked, “God d–n photo op Kristi at it again.”

This isn’t the first time Noem has faced such criticism. She has been dubbed “cosplay Barbie” for posts featuring her in various outfits seemingly chosen to reflect her location. She also drew ridicule for reportedly considering a reality TV show proposal that would have immigrants compete for expedited citizenship.
