Santee Cooper restores power to Myrtle Beach areas following lightning-filled thunderstorm

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Roughly 1,300 Santee Cooper customers remained without power in the Myrtle Beach area as of about 1:50 p.m., according to the utility’s online outage map.

One of the biggest outage areas along a section of Highway 31 east of Highway 501 was the result of a lightning strike, Santee Cooper’s website shows. It initially affected about 1,260 customers, but service to many of those customers has been restored.

Another outage along Highway 17 Bypass between Farrow Parkway and Highway 501 grew to about 1,000 customers by 1 p.m…
