JCPenney Staten Island store among 119 locations sold in $947 million deal

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 100 JCPenney stores across the United States are being sold for nearly $1 billion to a Boston-based private equity firm. And the JCPenney store in the Staten Island Mall in New Springville is part of the sale, according to property data published online.

The properties — 119 in total — are being sold to an affiliate of Onyx Partners for $947 million, with the deal expected to close by Sept. 8.

The all-cash sale was announced on July 25 by Copper Property CTL Pass Through Trust — a common law trust which was established following JCPenney’s 2020 bankruptcy to oversee the sale of the company’s real estate assets…
