The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased male found Saturday, July 12, in the remote Silver Island Mountains as 62-year-old Michael Steven Cornstock. According to law enforcement, preliminary findings indicate the cause of death to be exposure and a cardiac event.
Cornstock was discovered by a passerby in the mountain range, which sits on the Box Elder and Tooele border. An empty UTV trailer was found off Interstate 80 in Tooele County. Cornstock was found about 20 miles from the trailer, and the UTV has not yet been located.
“The ongoing investigation suggests that Mr. Comstock rode his UTV north on the Silver Island Mountains,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “For reasons currently unknown, he became separated from his UTV and appeared to be attempting to walk back to his vehicle.”…
