A pedestrian accident in East Baton Rouge Parish resulted in a fatality early yesterday morning, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A. The crash, involving 48-year-old Prairieville resident Travis Weams, occurred on US 61 just south of LA 42. Weams had initially crashed his 2012 Toyota Camry before the subsequent events leading to his death.
Following the report by the Louisiana State Police, after his vehicle crashed on the northbound side of US 61 near Manchac Park Road, Weams exited his car, crossed the median and entered the northbound traffic lanes. Then, a 2019 Mack garbage truck collided with Weams. Shortly after, he was hit by a 2016 Ford Mustang. Both the truck and Mustang’s drivers, who were uninjured, were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incidents.
The scene was pronounced fatal for Weams, who died from injuries sustained during the impacts. Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers as well as from Weams to determine if impairment played a role in the crash, although initial suspicions suggest it was not a factor.
