DENVER (KDVR) — A Weld County man is now the first in the county’s history to be charged and convicted for his role in a fentanyl overdose.
According to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, Noah Bancroft was sold cocaine and at least one fentanyl pill from his friend, Wyatt Goergen, the night before his death on July 23, 2023.

On Wednesday, almost two years to the day since Bancroft’s death, Goergen was sentenced to the maximum prison sentence allowed under Colorado law: 24 years in the Department of Corrections.
“The reality is that no matter what sentence this Court gives, the defendant still has a chance at life and will come home someday,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia said during the sentencing hearing and shared in a release. “He will reunite with his family that are sitting here behind him. And Noah will not. I hope this sends a message to people who are thinking about selling this poison in our community. If you sell these drugs, and you have this type of deadly result, I hope you know what’s coming next.”…
