From the moment she made Indianapolis her home, Venezuela-born visual artist Mary Mindiola has worked to provide opportunities for other Latina creators in Central Indiana.
Why it matters: That passion led to her co-founding Indy Latina Artists alongside Puerto Rican painter Mirvia Sol Eckert in 2022.
- The group aims to help the work of Latina artists reach a wider audience and promotes community through artistic collaboration.
- ILA wants to create a home away from home for expat creators.
What she’s saying: “It is very intimidating (learning) another culture … another language,” she said. “When the opportunity of doing something like this came up, we wanted to show their work around town and help make the city a colorful city.”
