A gun, a knife, two choices: Autopsy of a Syracuse road-rage killing: A split-second confrontation between two drivers in downtown Syracuse ended with one man dead and another claiming self-defense. When Ezell Hicks Jr. ran a red light and cut off Leonard Paradise, the men exchanged words through open car windows. Hicks then charged Paradise’s SUV with a knife, and Paradise fired three fatal shots. Hicks’ family questions why Paradise couldn’t have retreated or fired non-lethal shots.
Contractor donates A/C system to Syracuse youth center: A Syracuse company has promised to donate a brand-new air conditioning system so Mary Nelson’s Youth Center can reopen next week. Hummingbird Heating & Cooling owner Chad Terrinoni offered his services after reading a syracuse.com story Tuesday night about how a broken A/C unit had prevented kids from eating meals at Nelson’s South Salina Street youth center for much of the summer. “I just thought it was the right thing to do,” he said.
Cornell grad among dead in Manhattan shooting: A Central New York college graduate has been identified as one of the four people killed in a recent shooting in New York City. Julia Hyman, a 27-year-old Cornell University alumna, was shot and killed Monday on the 33rd floor of the Midtown skyscraper at 345 Park Ave. in Manhattan.
