Houston’s historic Hermann Park Golf Course faces uncertain future

One of Houston’s most historic public golf courses faces an uncertain future.

Hermann Park Golf Course, located in Houston’s museum district and medical center area, is expected to need a new operator as BSL Golf is “in advanced talks with the city to conclude its management responsibilities,” per KPRC 2’s Jaewon Jung. The ending of the partnership could result in the loss of employment for “about 50 workers,” per Jung, with no current plan in place to find a new operator. KPRC2 also received a flyer placed on the Hermann Park course, claiming the course will downsized in order to “add more parking.”

Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, a City Council member representing the district that houses Hermann Park, didn’t comment on the looming operator change. She did confirm an impending “temporary closure,” of the golf course, though the closure dates have yet to be announced.

“Hermann Park Golf Course, a historic and cherished part of our city for more than a century, is expected to undergo course development work that will require a temporary closure,” Evans-Shabazz told KPRC 2 in a statement. “At this time, there is no formal comment, as the proposed management and improvement plan for Hermann Park Golf Course is currently under review by the Mayor’s Office…
