Scubber’s Hot Wings closes after 46 years

COLONIE — Scubber’s Hot Wings, a destination for chicken wings that opened in 1979 and survived under the original owners even as its signature item became seemingly ubiquitous in restaurants and national chains devoted to them came to the Capital Region, has closed permanently. The final day in business was Thursday.

“It was just too much for me,” Bernice Cietek said Friday morning. She opened Scubber’s on River Street in Troy with her husband, Bob, who died in April at age 73; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January 2024. Their children, Robert Cietek Jr. and Stephanie Anastasio, helped with the business but also had full-time jobs and children.

Bernice Cietek said she will continue to sell Scubber’s wings sauce. It may be ordered via messaging her on the restaurant’s Facebook page until she launches a dedicated website, she said…
