COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Corrections released details regarding several warrants served against inmates over the last year on charges ranging from illegal cell phones and drugs to kidnapping and murder.
The agency said 44-year-old Emmanuel Shai Hutchinson has been charged with murder, carrying a concealed weapon by an inmate and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The charges stem from a stabbing that happened at Kershaw Correctional Institution on May 6. Hutchinson is accused of stabbing another inmate, Terry Wayne Cook Jr., with a homemade wooden stake. Cook died on June 5.
Warrants against 43-year-old Jeron Alondo Cook, also at Kershaw Correctional, stem from the assault of two officers in October 2024. The SCDC said the officers were attempting to take a cellphone from Cook when he allegedly attacked them and held them in his cell.
