A Michigan woman captured the terrifying moment she drove through a flooded tunnel near Detroit Metro Airport, with water rising several feet high around her vehicle and what her passenger described as “a waterfall” pouring into the tunnel.
Karen Humphrey had just left the Delta terminal on Monday, July 28, when she approached the Dingell Drive tunnel—only to find it completely submerged under stormwater. As torrential rain pounded the area, Humphrey began recording on her phone while cautiously navigating the treacherous stretch of road.
Footage shows a torrent of water cascading down a tall concrete wall into the tunnel, creating what appeared to be a man-made waterfall. As they entered the tunnel, the car’s tires quickly became engulfed. Water sloshed up onto the hood and eventually neared the windows.
“Dear God, please let me make it through,” Humphrey is heard repeating, while her passenger urges her to keep a steady pace. The video captures their growing anxiety as floating traffic cones and other debris drift by, creating even more hazards inside the tunnel…
