Pregnant woman, 25, among the homeless fleeing Harrisburg’s Tent City for new start

Friday was moving day in Tent City, the long-running but unsanctioned encampment for homeless people in South Harrisburg.

About 10 of the 60 to 80 unhoused living in Tent City, located in a wooded area near the Capital Area Greenbelt and the PennDOT driver services center, were the first to relocate to a gravel parking lot about a mile away, Dauphin County officials said.

Still, others were digging in their heels, reluctant to trade the trees, shade and “live-and-let-live” code of Tent City for the rules, registration and video monitoring of the new site…
