What to do if your dog ate an edible

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA/Bloom) — As cannabis edibles become more common at parties and in households, veterinarians and dog trainers are warning pet owners to be extra cautious. Marijuana-related poisoning cases in pets have surged 448% over the past six years, often after a curious dog finds a forgotten gummy or brownie left within reach.

Karen Piwinski, a certified dog trainer with the Woofz puppy and dog training app, says the best way to protect pets is through prevention, and knowing exactly what to do if your dog gets into something they shouldn’t.

“Dogs are fast, curious, and not great at reading warning labels,” Piwinski said. “Special brownies and chocolate might hit dogs much harder than humans. Symptoms can go from mild to serious pretty fast. You don’t need to panic, but you do need to act smart.”…
