Desalination on Hold: What are Corpus Christi’s options to secure future water?

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi City Council’s vote to pause funding for the Inner Harbor Desalination Plant design doesn’t take the option off the table. Leaders will revisit it a month from now when they’re able to confirm if low-interest loans from the Texas Water Development Board must stay with the project.

“This project, of all the projects, is the only one fully permitted, just about fully funded, and actually in design, 10 percent design,” City Manager Peter Zanoni said. “We work at the will of the council they are the policy setters; they have the tough job to approve certain things to move forward.”

Council members had also expressed concerns during Tuesday’s late night city council meeting about the roughly $1Billion dollar price tag but City Manager Peter Zanoni said that could also change with time…
