No cars allowed: New transit-only lanes announced as part of KC Streetcar expansion

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – New transit-only lanes are coming to downtown Kansas City.

The designated lanes will be restricted to RideKC buses and streetcars in an effort to speed up transit and reduce delays. City leaders say the change will help keep the streetcar system running on time and improve safety for both riders and operators.

“These transit-only lanes will ensure that they continue to have a safe route,” said Councilman Crispin Rea. “It will ensure that our operators continue to have a safe route. These are hardworking union folks, and so safety is a top priority.”

The new lanes will be clearly marked with solid red pavement or alternating red and white lines, along with increased signage. Some lanes will also feature curbs or plastic delineators to keep unauthorized vehicles out…
