Get Ready to Purr: Cat Video Fest Hits the Big Screen!

The internet’s favorite felines are taking over cinemas this weekend with the arrival of Cat Video Fest 2025. Over 500 independent theaters across the U.S. and Canada will be showcasing a 73-minute compilation of hilarious, heartwarming, and downright adorable cat videos. Even better, a portion of every ticket sold goes to support local cat shelters and animal welfare organizations, continuing a tradition that has raised over $1 million since 2019.

Curating this purr-fectly crafted collection is Will Braden, the creator of the existential cat video series “Henri, le Chat Noir”. Braden’s job title?

“I watch cat videos.” And he’s not kitten around.

He sifts through thousands of hours of footage to bring audiences the best of the best. “It isn’t all cats falling into bathtubs,” Braden assures.

“I want to show how broad the idea of a cat video can be, from animation and music videos to mini-documentaries.”

Now in its eighth year, Cat Video Fest is enjoying its biggest year yet, expanding to theaters in France, Spain, Japan, and Brazil, adding to its existing presence in the UK and Denmark. Following a successful run last year, which saw over $1 million in box office sales, the festival has proven itself a hit with theater owners. “Everywhere that does it wants to do it again,” Braden reports.

Theaters like Alamo Drafthouse, IFC Center, and Music Box are among those participating, attracting a diverse audience of cat lovers, from children and grandparents to hipsters and everyone in between. “It’s one of the only things,” Braden observes, “that appeals to just about everybody.”

With an endless supply of cat videos and an equally endless supply of enthusiastic viewers, the future looks bright for Cat Video Fest. Braden’s goal?

“All I have to do is make sure it’s really funny and entertaining every year.” And with that, we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief – the internet’s finest feline entertainment is here to stay.
