- Dolly Parton Breaks Silence on Jeannie Seely Death: ‘She Was One of My Dearest Friends’ (parade.com)
Country music legend Dolly Parton mourns the loss of her dear friend, Jeannie Seely, who passed away at age 85 on Friday, August 1st, in Hermitage, Tennessee. Seely’s death follows a difficult period for the “Miss Country Soul” singer, who battled health issues throughout much of 2025 and lost her husband, Eugene Ward, to cancer in December 2024.
Seely’s connection with Parton dates back to their early days in Nashville. When Seely’s hit song “Don’t Touch Me” launched her onto the touring circuit, Parton stepped in to fill her spot on The Porter Wagoner Show. The two remained close over the years, sharing the stage at the Grand Ole Opry and even collaborating musically, with Seely lending her vocals to Parton’s 2005 album Those Were The Days.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram, Parton remembered Seely as “one of my dearest friends,” praising her talent and “wonderful sense of humor.” She fondly recalled shared laughter and tears, adding that Seely “will be missed.” Fans offered condolences and support to the grieving icon.
