‘Why do you need your phone?’: Parents share mixed reactions to new state law on cell phones in schools

BARTLETT, Tenn. (WMC) – Now that Tennessee has enacted a cell phone ban in schools, Mid-South school districts are updating their policies, and parents are sharing their thoughts on how districts are handling the changes.

From bell to bell—cell phones, smart watches, and even earbuds will have to be placed into numbered pouches at Bartlett High School during instructional time.

“I don’t have a problem with it because the children, they need to focus on their class work,” parent Calisha Beauregard said. “I’m sure the phones are a big distraction to the teachers and the learning environment.”…
