Identity of 82-year-old who died while in custody at San Diego jail released

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of an 82-year-old man who died while in custody earlier this week.

On Monday, July 28, Karim Talib, 82, was found unresponsive in his cell at the San Diego Central Jail by deputies and a facility nurse. He was discovered around 8:40 a.m. while the nurse and deputies were distributing medication.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies immediately called 9-1-1, requested more assistance from the facility’s medical staff and began CPR. Despite life-saving efforts, Talib was pronounced dead at 9:10 a.m.

Talib was taken into custody on May 27 and was facing charges for mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse, authorities said…
