Worcester leaders seek to ease ICE concerns at public cultural events

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester leaders are seeking to ease concerns that local cultural events like the upcoming Caribbean American Carnival could become targets for Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity.

In a joint statement between City Council Vice Chair Khrystian King, City Manager Eric Batista, Police Chief Paul Saucier and organizers of the carnival, the group said they’re committed to making cultural events inclusive, celebratory and free from intimidation or misunderstanding.

“We want to be clear: Worcester is a city that values diversity and celebrates culture, not with fear, but with pride,” King said. “No one should have to choose between honoring their heritage and fearing enforcement.”…
