Neenah man’s 127-mile wheelchair journey shines light on home care worker crisis

MADISON (WLUK/CNN NEWSOURCE) — A Neenah man’s 127-mile wheelchair journey is igniting a hope for change in the healthcare industry.

On July 13, disability rights advocate and quadriplegic, Carl Schulze started his journey from his apartment in Neenah to downtown Madison in his wheelchair to shine a spotlight on the lack of home healthcare access, which he says stems from low compensation for care workers and has been exacerbated by recent cuts to Medicaid.

“The average pay is about $15 per hour for people to help someone like me and they could go start at a fast food restaurant for $18-$20 per hour,” Schulze said…
