Looking back one year after powerful windstorm slammed Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – It’s been one year since Lincoln saw the massive windstorm that swept through eastern Nebraska, knocking out power lines and trees, and leaving more than 33,000 Lincoln Electric System customers without electricity.

Nicknamed “The Howler” by LES officials, the storm packed 83 mph winds and was the third largest in the utility’s history, based on outage time.

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities crews spent several days removing branches and debris on city streets, and were helped by other city entities like the Parks and Recreation Department…
