The Easton Area School District is spending too much and no one will listen, board member says

The Easton Area School District’s former finance head, who is now serving on the school board, says the board has blown through $43 million in reserves since he left his job.

The board refuses to pump the brakes on spending, according to Michael Simonetta. He says a 3.5% tax increase approved last month to help finance the $298 million high school project wouldn’t be necessary had the school district held onto its savings.

“This four-year history of deliberate disregard for sound budgeting practices is unacceptable,” Simonetta said at the board meeting July 23. He issued a copy of his statement to the news media…
