“Pawn Stars” Rick Harrison Encounters Piece of Music History, But Deal Falls Flat
A classic Rolls-Royce, once owned by the legendary Johnny Cash, rolled into the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, catching the eye of Rick Harrison. The seller, accompanied by Cash’s long-time drummer, W.S.
Holland, hoped to strike a deal for the iconic vehicle. Holland, who played with Cash for four decades, vouched for the car’s authenticity, sharing stories of its history with the Man in Black.
The seller’s asking price? A cool $350,000. While clearly impressed by the car’s provenance, Harrison, ever the shrewd businessman, called in his classic car expert, Steven Ray Anastos, for an appraisal.
Anastos, immediately recognizing the Rolls-Royce’s significance, gave it a thorough inspection, even taking it for a test drive with Harrison. He confirmed its authenticity but offered a valuation of $50,000, citing a recent auction where another of Cash’s 1970 Rolls-Royces sold for a similar amount.
This valuation didn’t sit well with the seller, who argued that the auctioned car lacked the direct connection to Cash that his vehicle possessed. Despite the seller lowering his price to $200,000, Harrison stood firm with the expert’s appraisal, ultimately leading to the deal’s collapse.
The seller left, intending to take the Rolls-Royce to auction, hoping a dedicated Johnny Cash collector would recognize its true value. While Harrison acknowledged the car’s coolness, he wasn’t willing to stray from his expert’s valuation, letting this piece of music history slip through his fingers.
