KATY, TX [Aug. 1, 2025] – Five talented student artists from Katy ISD were recently recognized for their creativity and artistic excellence in the 2025 Dr. Mari Jon Filla Student Exhibit and Contest sponsored by the Houston World Series of Dog Shows.
The annual competition showcases the work of young artists across the region who creatively interpret the world of dogs through visual arts. It celebrates students’ interpretations of man’s best friend through paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces. A panel of professional artists and dog show organizers selected the winners.
The following Katy ISD students earned awards at this year’s contest:
- Lana Xu, Jordan High School
- Alexander Morales, Schmalz Elementary
- Brenda Guzman, Nelson Junior High
- Maria Suarez, West Memorial Junior High
- Vanessa Qi, Cinco Ranch High School
“This recognition not only reflects the creativity of our students, but also the dedication of our outstanding art educators,” said Assistant Director of Fine Arts, Laura Simoneaux. “Art contests such as this allow students to connect their artistic skills with the broader community in meaningful and joyful ways.
