Lincoln, NE — Lathan Huntley, a 14-year-old from Lincoln, has earned the nickname “Chicken Dude” for his impressive dedication to poultry. With 15 entries in the Lancaster County Super Fair, Huntley has been raising chickens since his grandmother gifted him four chicks seven years ago.
“I really got into them four years later, when we hatched our own chicks,” said Huntley, who now cares for between 20 and 30 chickens and two turkeys.
To prepare for competitions, Huntley reads the “Standard of Perfection” every night. “In the book it kind of says what body type, the different breeds, of what body type they are supposed to have, their color, their comb type, size, all that kind of stuff. There’s way more that goes into it but that’s one of the basics,” he explained…
