BETHLEHEM, Pa. (July 28, 2025) — Musikfest just got a little more inclusive. For the first time in its 41-year history, the iconic 10-day celebration in Bethlehem will feature SoberPlatz, a brand-new alcohol-free zone designed for connection, community and pure music-loving joy—no buzz required.
Presented by Sync Recovery and supported by ArtsQuest and the Northampton County Council, SoberPlatz provides a safe, welcoming oasis for anyone who wants to enjoy the music, the people and the energy—without the alcohol. Whether you’re sober, sober-curious, in recovery, or simply looking for a judgment-free zone to catch your breath, you’re invited to drop in and be part of the experience.
A Community-Driven Collaboration
The creation of SoberPlatz was made possible thanks to a resolution introduced by Northampton County Council President Lori Vargo Heffner, who led the charge to secure funding for setup and staffing.
“I’m thrilled to see SoberPlatz becoming a reality at Musikfest,” said Heffner. “This truly opens up opportunities for individuals in the recovery community to enjoy the festival without hesitation.”
Curt Mosel, chief operating officer at ArtsQuest, echoed that sentiment. “At ArtsQuest, we believe Musikfest should be a celebration where everyone feels they belong. SoberPlatz adds an important dimension to the festival experience, creating a safe, inclusive space that supports connection, well-being and the joy of music in an alcohol-free environment.”
What to Expect
Located next to Air Products Americaplatz on the SteelStacks campus, SoberPlatz will be open daily during the festival, which runs Aug. 1–10. Inside, you’ll find:
- Recovery community meetups
- Wellness and mindfulness sessions
- Educational resources and peer support
- Opportunities to relax and recharge
“We’re thrilled to partner with Musikfest to make sure everyone has a place to feel welcome, included and part of the fun,” said Laura Waits, executive director of Sync Recovery. “Recovery isn’t about missing out—it’s about showing up fully, and having a great time while you do it.”
Why It Matters
SoberPlatz isn’t just a pop-up tent with good vibes—it’s a reflection of a bigger shift. One that recognizes sobriety as a valid and vibrant lifestyle, and understands that celebration doesn’t need to come with a side of hangover…
