Virginia Weather Alert: Flash Flooding and Isolated Wind Gusts Possible This Afternoon Through Evening

Blacksburg, Va. – Flash flooding could impact roads and creeks across parts of Virginia and Northwest North Carolina this afternoon as slow-moving storms develop along the Blue Ridge and track eastward.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a cold front sliding south into the Carolinas is combining with lingering moisture to trigger localized downpours and possible flash flooding, especially in western Virginia and the North Carolina foothills. Areas under a Level 2 risk include southern Virginia into northern North Carolina, where creeks and poor drainage zones may overflow, and gusty winds could accompany stronger storms.

Communities along and just east of the Blue Ridge—such as Galax, Hillsville, and Mount Airy—should prepare for street flooding and brief travel disruptions. Isolated damaging wind gusts could bring down tree limbs and power lines in heavier cells…
