In San Antonio, anchors are practically celebrities — so when the ’90s OGs are still going strong, that’s a big deal. KSAT anchorSteve Spriester, who joined the ABC-affiliate in 1995 is celebrating 30 years at the San Antonio TV station. Starting out as a general assignment reporter at KSAT, the award-winning journalist worked his way up to the anchor desk, where he now leads the station’s 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. broadcasts. But Spriester’s influence has grown far beyond the anchor desk over the years.
A 2005 documentary he developed, highlighting San Antonio’s homeless population, led to the founding of Haven for Hope, a nonprofit that now supports hundreds of people in need, according to a KSAT report. Following Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, he and his wife Nicole launched a nonprofit to support families in the rebuilding process, KSAT reports.
After three decades at KSAT, Spriester doesn’t hesitate when asked to sum up his career in one word: grateful.
“I am grateful for all the opportunities I have been given at KSAT, but also for the viewers who have taken me into their homes and lives. I’m grateful for the hard work of a talented group of journalists who take the responsibility of what we do very seriously, and for a city that has let me celebrate and mourn with them in the most public of ways,” Spriester told MySA…
