What’s New in Florida Schools for the 2025–26 School Year

Families across Central Florida will notice several important updates in how schools operate, how students learn, and how schools ensure safety and equity during the 2025–26 academic year.

First, a landmark new law significantly restricts cell phone use in schools. Building upon Florida’s 2023 legislation that banned cell phones during instructional time, a 2025 bill now proposes a full “bell-to-bell” ban for middle and elementary students. It would allow high school districts to enforce similar restrictions as well. Exceptions are allowed for medical or instructional reasons, and a pilot in six counties is testing all-day prohibitions. Parents should check with their district for their local policy updates.
