Families across Central Florida will notice several important updates in how schools operate, how students learn, and how schools ensure safety and equity during the 2025–26 academic year.
First, a landmark new law significantly restricts cell phone use in schools. Building upon Florida’s 2023 legislation that banned cell phones during instructional time, a 2025 bill now proposes a full “bell-to-bell” ban for middle and elementary students. It would allow high school districts to enforce similar restrictions as well. Exceptions are allowed for medical or instructional reasons, and a pilot in six counties is testing all-day prohibitions.
