Five in custody following shootout in Jackson neighborhood

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police announced five suspects were in custody in connection to a shootout on Redwood Drive.

The shooting occurred around 7:00 p.m. on August 2 in the 4500 block of Redwood Drive. Police said they received a call that multiple vehicles had been shot into and that multiple suspects were involved.

Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said officers discovered that the shooting started on Redwood Drive between two groups of suspects, who were at odds with each other. They were allegedly traveling to a private party at a home on Sundew Place. The shootout resulted in multiple homes and vehicles being shot into. Brown said detectives recovered multiple shell casings.

According to Brown, four suspects were arrested in the 100 block of Sundew Place. The fifth suspect, who was shot, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The following suspects were arrested:

  • Deshawn Gross, 21 – Charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling
  • Desmond Hudson, 22 – Charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling
  • Jamorris Lewis, 21 – Charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and convicted felon/firearm
  • Octavius Robinson, 18 – Charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling
  • Rushoderic Williams, 19 – Charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling

More arrests are expected.
