RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) is warning the Upstate about recent text scams that demand payment for traffic violations.
The SCDMV said they are aware of multiple scams impersonating their department through text, including a link that imitates the SCDMV address and webpage. The texts usually say that the recipient has an overdue toll violation or an unpaid traffic ticket, and will threaten suspension unless paid off.
The SCDMV advises residents that their department does not collect toll fees, nor would they ever demand payment through texts. The SCDMV would also not threaten suspensions for toll violations…
