Latest Update on Status of North American River Otter Has People Cheering

In a rather wonderful bit of news, the North American River otter is making a comeback in the Austin, Texas, area. The Texas Parks and Wildlife officials are dubbing this a “population success story.”

These adorable little critters are usually found around the Gulf of Texas and in the eastern part of the state; however, more recently, there have been numerous river otter sightings in central Texas. The otter family in this video was filmed along the Colorado River outside of Austin, Texas.

According to this video, North American River otter sightings have become more frequent in the central Texas regions of Austin and San Marcos during the past few years. Texas Parks and Wildlife believes that this is a sign of the species making a westward habitat expansion…
