APD gearing up for this year’s ‘National Night Out’

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque police are inviting the public out for one last celebration before the school year starts. This Tuesday is National Night Out, a way for community members to connect with law enforcement and first responders while also standing up to crime in neighborhoods.

Most Albuquerque parks will be hosting different events, from cookouts and other family-friendly activities. APD says they will have officers, PSA’s and even the National Guard out at 50 different parks to connect with the community.

Albuquerque police say word of mouth is their best recruiting tool

“A lot of people appreciate seeing officers and meeting them. They appreciate seeing our horse-mounted unit, a lot of our different tactical units. Kids like to go out, and I’ve personally seen a lot of our cadets will go out and engage with the community. So it’s a good way just to connect people so they’re not connecting for the first time during or after a crime,” says communications director with APD Gilbert Gallegos.

A full list of events happening across Albuquerque during the event is available on the APD website…
