A flood watch is in effect for Walker County and surrounding areas until this evening. The watch comes after heavy rainfall late last week and over the weekend. The National Weather Service says the excessive run off may result in flooding in some areas. Flooding has been a problem in some areas of Chattooga County and parts of Summerville. City officials in Summerville said Saturday they had received 11 inches of rain in the previous 48 hours.
The Walker County Commission meets Thursday at 6 p.m. with a full agenda, including public hearings on the proposed 2026 county budget and a zoning request for property on Happy Valley Road in Rossville. Commissioners will also vote on new employee policies, SPLOST funding, and a $39,000 purchase of AED devices for county facilities. A resolution to finance new fire equipment and funds for environmental cleanup are also on the table. The next meeting is set for September 4 at a new location—201 South Duke Street.
Chickamauga voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 4, for municipal and special elections. Three city council seats, three school board seats, and one unexpired school board term are on the ballot. Qualifying runs August 18 through 20 at City Hall.
